BBC
PARLIAMENT has a minimal text service which complements the audio-only
service available from Ondigital.
As of April 2000 the
digital text service accompanying the 'relaunched' BBC KNOWLEDGE appears
to be the slickest of the MHEG text services.
It reminds you of its existence when you
first tune in...
... and selected pages
appear almost instantly!
One menu option allows
you to find out more about the new service...
... but is
it going a bit too far to suggest that this is the first service of it's
type.
Well, inasmuch as it is actually useable,
I guess they're right!
The programme going on in the corner is
"Apeman" - starring some crusty old fossils, apparently!
And, as
promised, the service lets you find out more about the programme.
The BBC took full
advantage of the facilities offered by Digital Teletext to enhance their
coverage of Wimbledon 2000.
With Wimbledon coverage
often on two of the BBC's three mainstream channels at any one time the
green button could be used to toggle between the channels.
The current scores page
allowed you to check the latest scores on all the courts...
... and match statistics
were also available.
... along with all the
latest news about the players.
The standard of the
graphics was very high and it is a shame that a similar service was not
available to those watching the BBC's coverage via digital satellite.

to complex technical matters.
